The Madonna in Adoration of the Christ Child Surrounded by Angels, with God the Father, 1470-75.

This elegant relief shows the Virgin Mary kneeling with hands joined to venerate the Christ Child, who reaches out to seek the confort of his mother. A pair of adoring angels arrive in flight with hands pressed together or crossed in a gesture of humility. God the Father appears at the top of the composition with the dove of the Holy Spirit descending below him. Andrea della Robbia inherited his workshop in Florence from his famous uncle, Luca della Robbia. This masterpiece was recently discovered from a private collection in France and has never before been exhibited in the United States.
